The What?

We worked with Chilly’s a UK-based bottle specialist who have been winning rave reviews for their practical and stylish bottles to bring this Non Plastic Beach branded special edition to you at an affordable price.

A double walled, stainless steel water bottle that keeps drinks hot or keeps them cold available in a stylish blue hue, with other colours coming soon. This half litre or 500ml bottle fits nicely into car cup holders, rucksack side pockets or even bike bottle holders for long hot or cold cycle rides. It can stay cool on the beach while you swim, surf or dive or warm on the mountain while you board or ski.

It’s made out of food grade stainless steel meaning it is also easy to clean on the move with boiling water (try that with most plastic bottles and see what happens) meaning it can be made sterile very easily, even in basic conditions. Made out of strong and hard metal, it is not prone to scratches unlike on plastic bottles which can harbour food debris and encourage bacteria growth.

The Why?

We looked long and hard for a great drinks bottle. We wanted one that was completely plastic free, but that is actually difficult to achieve if you don’t want it to leak. So we found the Chilly’s bottle which is primarily made of food-grade stainless steel, with a small amount of BPA-free plastic in the lid and seal.

We have tested these on beach holidays, cycling, hiking & music festivals, as well as just normal daily use, and we have found them to suit us perfectly.

The drinks bottle was always going to be a key part of our range and for really good reason. Whenever we watch Bear Grylls stranding the next round of people on The Island on Channel 4 we see plastic bottles covering the beaches of a totally uninhabited island. We are also hugely inspired by Afroz Shah, a UN honoured environmental “champion of the earth” responsible for the world’s largest beach clean up project in Mumbai, India, but equally devastated by the scale of his project due to the vast volumes of plastic pollution littering the beaches, and with plastic bottles being one of the biggest culprits.

We go through 13 billion plastic bottles a year in the UK and only 7.5 billion are recycled and, as with most single-use plastic, recycling really means down-cycling as the recycled product is of a lower grade than the original. Ever noticed how bottles that have recycled material are usually a percentage recycled, but almost never 100%? That is because it is hard to make a bottle of the required quality from only recycled plastic.

So, we chose a bottle that we liked and that would last us a long long time. The fact that it does not just contain but also insulates both hot and cold drinks makes it wonderfully flexible. We find that one of the key motivators for buying water when out and about is wanting it to be fresh and cold or to enjoy a warm drink.
