AIRPORT TRAVEL TIP FOR INSULATED WATER BOTTLES
We flew to Scotland last weekend for a family wedding in the North East of Scotland (561 mile drive and short duration of our stay made train or car alternatives impractical). We went hand luggage only and took our Non Plastic Beach by Chilly’s insulated steel bottle with us to keep out daughter Isla hydrated.
As you may or may not know, some of the rules around liquids are different if you are travelling with an infant and they will allow larger quantities of liquid, which they then put through various machines to check. Our full bottle of water was allowed by the regulations, but because of the vacuum flask design of it (to keep water cold for 24 hours or hot for 12 hours), it caused issues for the various checking machines.
The lady from airport security advised this was a regular issue and asked us to bring it through empty and refill as many of the retailers would do that for you. So our top travel tip is do take your insulated water bottle as it can help you cut single-use plastic when you travel, but avoid taking it full unless you want a full body scan, swabs and a 20 minute delay at Heathrow security…
We also liked the fact that Aberdeen Airport had a chilled water fountain for refills and it had a counter to tell you how many bottles had been saved. Almost 42,000 is a great total and means that at least 1.2 metric tons of plastic has been saved!
